Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Joel Pett of the Lexington Herald Leader speaks to The World’s Marco Werman about the Chinese cartoonists he met on a recent trip to China. There’s two types: the state-run party old timers and the younger Web savvy types who are going directly to the public in blogs, on Facebook and Twitter.  And there’s a slideshow of work by Kuang Biao, a Chinese cartoonist who especially impressed Pett.

Chinese cartoonist Crazy Crab (a pseudonym) compares the improbable escape of legal activist Chen Guangcheng, who is blind, to that of Andy Dufresne in the 1994 film “The Shawshank Redemption”. Chen Guangcheng reportedly slipped away from his well-guarded rural village on Sunday night and was driven away by activists who then transferred him to a secret location in Beijing.
