South African cartoonist and satirist Zapiro (Jonathan Shapiro) turns a bottle of Absolut Vodka into Syria’s Bashar al-Assad’s Absolut Power, endorsed by Russia and China.
This is a dark cartoon reflecting dark times in Syria. Canadian cartoonist Gary Clement has a stinging sense of humor and he doesn’t hold back in this comment on the recent deaths of American journalist Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik in Homs. They were two of six Western journalists who came under fire on February 22nd when Syrian forces attacked the building where they were hiding in Baba Amro, an opposition stronghold in the central city of Homs. Eighty people were killed in bombardments that day.
